Coaching is a way to support you in bringing out the best in you. The experience can be breathtaking, life altering, amazing and touching. The power lies within you and when you are open to it coaching can support you in attaining the goals that you want. Coaching
can help you to clarify what it is that you want and move or remove the
obstacles that you meet on your way to reaching your goals. Over time
most people have made up a lot of rules that they follow and live after.
Some rules are good and support you but some are destructive and
prevent you from living the life that you want. Similarly a lot of
people have, over time, fallen into some patterns that they consciously
or unconsciously follow. Through coaching these rules and patterns may
be identified and this will give you the option to change the aspects of
your life that are not working - if you so desire.
The International Coach Federation (ICF) was formed in 1995 by the late Thomas Leonard, and is today the leading global organization, with over 16,000 members from more than 100 countries. ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high professional standards, providing independent certification, and building a network of credentialed coaches. The ICF is the leader in developing a definition and philosophy of coaching, as well as, establishing a set of ethical standards that ICF members pledge to uphold.
The ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
I have been a member of the Danish ICF chapter for the last three years. It is important to me to contribute in any way that I can to this voluntary organization that exists for the benefit of advancing and enhancing the coaching profession. I currently hold the first level of certification within the ICF, called ACC, or Associated Certified Coach. In addition to coach specific training of at least 60 hours from an ICF accredited supplier, you need to have documented at least 100 coaching hours and had 10 hours of mentor coaching in order to become certified. The next level is called PCC (Professional Certified Coach), and the third and final level is called MCC (Master Certified Coach). Each certification is valid for three years before it can be renewed or moved to the next level. I am currently working towards getting my PCC certification. I was elected to join the ICF board of directors for the Danish Chapter in 2010, where I have held the position as Treasurer in 2010 and 2011. Although time-consuming and challenging, the experience has been very fulfilling and it feels good to be able to find a way to make a difference and contribute to the organization.
